Hey, check out my guest post about cooking with beer on Iron Stef today!
Welcome to Wednesday (already)! Hope you loved those beer and bacon pancakes, even if you’re a little afraid to try them. I definitely was – I’m still learning how to cook in the box, let alone out of the box! Sometimes it just takes those fun little side experiments to enhance your regular dishes. It never hurts to try and you never know what flavor combinations and taste profiles you’ll find.
Let’s talk about the above dip.
Wait a minute – first, let’s talk about sriracha. If you don’t have a bottle of sriracha hot sauce in your house, you’re missing out on a chile pepper heat that’s a little sweet and a little tangy all in one. It’s super cheap and available at most grocery stores. I’m still working my way up the heat ladder but I love just a little bit of sriracha mixed with mayo as a dipping sauce.
Back to the dip. This dip uses white beans. Switch to garbanzo beans and you have hummus, but stick with white beans for this dip.
I used a recipe from White on Rice Couple, and didn’t change anything so please check out their site for the original.
The entire recipe consists of combining sriracha, beans, and a variety of other ingredients, including sesame oil and soy sauce, into the blender. That’s it!
It turns into a delicious smelling, looking, and tasting creamy dip, perfect with pita chips or homemade crackers.
The taste is not overwhelmed by heat whatsoever – in fact, it lies underneath and pushes the other flavors (particularly the sesame oil) ahead to your taste buds, waiting to hit you at the end.
This would be a great dip to make for guests because the spice level is just right. It’s flavorful enough to please all palates.
One can of beans makes just the right amount to snack on and save for later. Try putting the bowl in the fridge for 30-60 minutes before serving, as it tightens up the dip and kind of…melds the flavors.
Try some! Remember, the recipe is on White on Rice Couple, here.
Question: Do you use sriracha? What’s your favorite food to pair it with?
