Remember last week when I posted the CSA offerings (and that blue cheese coleslaw)? Remember how I had one foot out the door to Indianapolis? Well, same old same old around here because we’re doing the exact same thing this weekend! Last weekend we went for DMB, and this weekend we go for Phish. As you’ve heard, temps will be in the hundreds, so please encourage me to drink as much water as beer this weekend
This week’s CSA brought us a couple new foods! The sungold tomatoes were a complete surprise and one of the bonuses to subscribing to a CSA: if the farmers harvest something early or unexpected, we reap the benefits!
Sungolds are perfect just to pop into your mouth, but they can also be split in half and added to pasta, or paired with fresh mozzarella.
Another new friend is purple cabbage…though I guess it’s not that new considering we’ve been getting cabbage for weeks now.
Use purple cabbage the same way you’d use the green variety – purple is just prettier! And last but not least, our newest edition is a handful of basil.
Basil is one of those herbs that end up in a conversation with neighbors, friends, and coworkers. “Hey, did you see the weather report? The Cardinals won! Want any basil?” People often have a surplus of basil after growing and it can wilt fast. It has a variety of uses though – pair the basil with those sungolds!
We also received:
- Green beans (I have yet to cook these – I keep eating them straight from the bag!)
- Zucchini
- Squash
- Cucumber
- Beets
- Baby leeks (forgot to photograph, but they look just like scallions!)
- Carrots
- Eggplant
Quite the bundle of produce this week! I’ll have a recipe for you on Saturday featuring many of our regular CSA participants: zucchini + squash (and goat cheese, my fav!).
Until then, stay cool!

Those tomatoes look fabulous!
Aren’t they pretty?
