Artisan Soda: Hibiscus Syrup Soda

Before checking my blog today, I had no idea it had been since Wednesday since I last blogged (and be sure to check out that postwin a t-shirt!). We are playing catch-up this weekend, trying to get tasks pinned down for the wedding and doing mega loads of laundry. This week’s CSA post will come tomorrow with an awesome squash recipe (squash?! Already?!?! Gah!).

For this rainy Saturday night, I wanted to show you this colorful soda I made this morning. I use my SodaStream all the time (it helped me give up regular soda, for good), and when I received this awesome book in the mail to review, I couldn’t wait to experiment.

Hibiscus Soda

The Artisan Soda Workshop by Andrea Lynn profiles over 70 recipes for homemade syrups that turn plain old carbonated water into artisan soda. The book even goes beyond syrup and into drink combinations that will blow your mind.

Ginger Grapefruit Martini?

Fizzy Watermelon-Jalapeno Aqua Fresca?!

The hibiscus syrup caught my eye immediately. I love Tazo’s “passion tea” mix and to combine it with carbonated water is like a dream come true for my palate. And it couldn’t have been easier to mix up.

Plus, it’s pink. Can you really go wrong with a pink beverage?

The process is simple: bring a cup of water to boil, mix in honey and add hibiscus tea bags (or loose leaf tea). Take off heat and let it steep, then cool. A couple of tablespoons in a small glass of soda water will do it!

The recipes in this little book range from something you can work up on a Saturday morning during breakfast, to those drinks you keep for special occasions (i.e. to impress your friends and colleagues). Everything can be done at home and a SodaStream is in no way required. Get creative and throw some hibiscus syrup in champagne!

Looking to give up soda but want something fun to replace it? This book is for you. Give up the cola and make your own artisan sodas at home!

See you tomorrow, and don’t forget to check out my t-shirt giveaway!
