Just a short post tonight. 11 hour days today and tomorrow make for little time at home. I had an individual bag of Kettle chips and a bowl of Panda Puffs for dinner, if that tells you anything. Just have to make it ‘til the weekend…
Before I get to the CSA, I found some photos I had meant to post a few weeks ago and never did! We had gone to the Cardinals game sometime in late August and had eaten dinner at 4 Hands Brewery. 4 Hands (one of our favorite breweries in St. Louis) features food from The Fifth Wheel, the fifth food establishment in the hands of St. Louis restaurateur Dave Bailey (see Bailey’s Range, Bridge Tap House, etc.). The menu is small – just the right amount for a brewery.
We started with pretzels and rarebit (a Welsh dish of melted cheese served with – usually on top of – bread):
Matt ordered their giant bowl of chicken nachos – so much delicious food!
I ordered the chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo, and it came with great coleslaw.
This weekend we are heading downtown for the Avett Brothers concert and another Cardinals game, so I will post about those food adventures soon!
The one other thing I have the energy to talk about are the crave-worthy fall items we got in our CSA this week! It’s certainly fall on Three Rivers Community Farm.
We got a whole bag of sweet potatoes, which Matt has already requested roasted with brown sugar. Can do! We also got:
- butternut squash
- lettuce
- bok choy
- baby white turnips (again, already requested roasted!)
- eggplant
- sweet peppers
I could eat sweet peppers all year long, so I’m happy that we’ve received so many. It’s strange to get greens again; it’s almost like I forgot what to do with them! I have been so focused on late summer vegetables that I’ve just gotten out of the habit with rinsing and storing greens. Must get to it!
I have a great recipe tomorrow with the acorn squash from last week’s CSA. Until then, my bed is calling my name – goodnight!
