Football Naps and Creamy Avocado Dip

A lot of things scream fall to me. Pumpkins, apples, squash, cinnamon – all important attributes of these cooler months. However, nothing says fall to me more than opening the windows, turning on the football game du jour, and napping on the couch.

It’s totally self-indulgent, but try it. Take 30 minutes, lie down on the couch, and turn on whatever football game is most important to your city (any game will do, college or NFL). Something about the rhythmic sounds of whistles and crowd roars during a football game works better than any noise machine ever could.

But wait! Before you start sawing those logs, make this creamy avocado dip and put it in the fridge for halftime. What’s better than waking up from a nap (on the couch, during a football game) and having a healthy dip waiting for you?

This creamy avocado dip was inspired by Two Peas and Their Pod, enough so that I’m in no way claiming it as my own. I did adapt it, but their basic recipe is delicious all on it’s own.

A combination of the following makes this creamy avocado dip the highlight of your halftime snackage:

  • nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • avocado
  • garlic
  • cilantro
  • jalapeno
  • cumin
  • lime juice
  • onion (my addition)
  • sundried tomatoes (my addition)

After combining the above (find proportions with the original recipe), let it chill in the fridge for a good half hour (while you nap, obviously). Dip pita chips (my fav – the salty chips play well with the avocado and tiny sweetness added by sundried tomatoes), or carrots and celery sticks to stick down the healthy path this creamy avocado dip started.

No one will know you used Greek yogurt instead of sour cream but even if they do, who cares? It tastes fresh and light, and no one can turn that down.

Do you nap? Ever try my favorite football game, open window, couch nap?

  1. I grew up napping to sports also. And football, I agree is best of all. Just not a Michigan game. :)
